Staff Human Resources Campus Memo
July 1, 2011
To: Principal Officers, UCSC Managers and Supervisors
Re: Campus-Only Staff Recruitment Procedures
Dear Colleagues:
We are writing to inform you that we have extended the suspension of the campus procedure that limits campus-only recruitments to specific pre-approved job title codes. Effective July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012, hiring departments have the option of utilizing open recruitments or campus-only recruitments in accordance with their divisional hiring procedures.
The extension of the suspension of our current procedure will provide principal officers and managers added flexibility during current budget challenges. It will also broaden the list of alternatives for mitigating the impact of layoffs; allow units with vacancies to show support for employees impacted by the current budget crisis; and create more opportunities for current employees and laid-off employees with preferential rehire rights. Prior to further extensions, an audit of campus-only recruitments will be conducted to assess the impact, success of the program and to address any concerns or issues that have arisen.
PLEASE NOTE: In selecting the campus-only recruitment option; hiring units should have a belief that there is a qualified, diverse pool of potential applicants and, must make and document good faith efforts toward broad campus outreach which is required by our affirmative action policies and procedures.
Questions about this correspondence and campus-only recruitment best practices may be directed to Affirmative Action Specialist Mykell Discipulo at x9-2686 and Employment Manager Lori Castro at x9-2960.
Sincerely,
Ashish Sahni
