UC Ethical Values and Conduct and Conflict of Interest for Researchers Compliance Briefing
Frequently Asked Questions
This briefing for researchers is designed to raise continued awareness of the University of California Statement of Ethical Values and Standards of Ethical Conduct, and to convey University employment obligations with respect to ethical and compliant behavior. The purpose is to familiarize UC employees with important ethics and compliance information, issues and resources, and how to report instances of non-compliance. In addition, this briefing will satisfy funding agency requirements to train researchers on conflict of interest in the research setting. Intended For: Approximately 19,000 University research employees (faculty, staff, postdocs) system-wide. The audience for this briefing was selected with input from the VCRs and others across the UC system and includes all those employees in one of the Class Title Codes who have been paid at least $1 from an extramural research fund account in FY07-08 or FY08-09.
Notification: Each University research employee will be automatically registered to complete the Compliance Briefing. Emails (with a link to the online briefing) will be sent to individual learners in November 2009, and learners will be expected to complete the online briefing by December 2010. Learners will receive monthly reminders until it has been completed. This briefing will take approximately 40-60 minutes to complete.
Frequency: Annually. After the November 2009 rollout, University research employees will be required to re-take the course each year, the exact date will be determined by the date they complete course the previous year.
