The purpose of this guide is to assist departments in administering the layoff process for employees covered by Personnel Policies for Staff Members (PPSM) 60-Layoff and Reduction in Time from Professional and Support Staff (PSS) Career Positions.
This guide is general in nature and is not intended as a substitute for the layoff provisions contained in University policies. Applicable University policies must be carefully reviewed prior to the initiation of layoff procedures. Unless specifically referenced, the term "layoff" within this guide refers to indefinite layoff as well as a permanent reduction in time. 
 An employee who is temporarily laid off or temporary reduced in time is not subject to the rights associated with indefinite layoff provided for by University policy. Refer to PPSM 60-D. Temporary Layoff or Temporary Reduction in Time.
