Employee Procedure

1. Notification

  1. Meet with your supervisor regarding the pending layoff and transition plan.

  2. If you are receiving a permanent reduction in time, discuss the impact of the reduction upon your work assignment(s).

  3. Receive the Layoff Notice and Layoff Resource Packet from your supervisor indicating either your last scheduled day of work or the effective date of your permanent reduction in time. The Layoff Notice will also include, date of layoff, reason for layoff, amount of seniority, the period of preferential rehire and recall and the number of weeks of severance available (if applicable).

  4. If you are offered severance pay in lieu of preferential rehire and recall rights, you have 14 days to respond to HRSTR from date of Layoff Notice if you wish to elect severance pay in lieu of preferential rehire and recall rights.

Please Note: A regular status employee who has been laid off indefinitely or whose time has been reduced indefinitely shall have the option of severance pay in lieu of preference for reemployment and the right to recall. If you elect severance pay, but resign prior to your layoff date, you will not receive severance pay. The separation will be recorded as a voluntary resignation.

  5. Specific information regarding election of severance pay, recall, and preferential rehire rights is available in the appropriate personnel policy or collective bargaining agreement as designated by your position.
