What if the Employee and/or Supervisor Disagrees with the Classification Decision?

If, after a formal classification review has been completed:

  • The PSS non-represented or MSP employee (and/or their supervisor) disagree with the classification decision, they must submit a brief request to the Compensation Manager within 30 calendar days of the notification of the classification decision. The letter must state the reasons for disagreement and any supporting documentation should be attached. Please send the request to Mailstop SHR. The second review will then be assigned to a different Compensation Analyst for an additional and independent review.

  • The represented employee (and/or their supervisor) disagree with the classification decision, they must submit a brief request to the campus Labor Relations Office with a cc to the Compensation Manager within 30 calendar days of the notification of the classification decision. The letter should be addressed to the Compensation Manager and must state the reasons for disagreement and any supporting documentation should be attached. Please send to the request to Mailstop Labor Relations. The second review will then be assigned to a different Compensation Analyst for an additional and independent review.

It may be helpful at this juncture to review "How Decision is Made" and "Classify Job, Not Person."

In either case, the Compensation Analyst reviews the request, may perform a desk audit, and determines the action to be taken. They will provide written notification of the final decision to the requesting party, the supervisor (if not the requesting party), the Service Team, and Labor Relations, if appropriate.
