located at 2901 Mission St. Extension, Suite B, Santa Cruz.[Directions]Computers
are also available at public libraries and local Employment Development
locations across the county.
Is the UCSC
application required at the time I apply?
Job Seekers are required to apply on-line at http://jobs.ucsc.edu.
A separate application must be submitted for each position you
wish to be considered for. During the on-line process you will
complete, save and submit a standard employment application.
Do I have to fill out an application every time I apply for a
job?
No. You may use the same application to apply for multiple jobs.
I don’t have a resume or a cover letter; will that affect
my application?
Applicants will be required to create and store an application
in the system. This document can be updated at any time and is
available for use when applying to other UCSC staff recruitments.
Inclusion of cover letter, resume, and other relevant materials
is at the discretion of the applicant.
My resume is on paper, and I don’t
have a scanner. How can I submit it using your on-line system?
Local copy services such
as Kinko’s can scan and load your
document onto a floppy disk or CD. You can then use the electronic
version of your resume at any computer with browser and Internet

of the computers located in the Staff Human Resources lobby, save
to a temporary file and then attach it to your electronic application.
Do I need an email
address to use the on-line application process?

communicating with you. If you don't have an email address already,
you can set up a free account at either one of the following web
sites. HOTMAIL or YAHOO.
Can I apply via email?

Can I apply
for a "Campus Only" recruitment?
Under certain circumstances, a hiring
unit may limit the scope of their recruitment to current
campus employees (staff, student & academic positions) and
former employees with active Layoff or Special Selection status.
In this case, advertising would be limited to the UC Santa Cruz
campus and only applicants meeting the above criteria would be
eligible to apply.
Can I apply for several jobs simultaneously to save time?
No. However, once your initial application has been created and
saved in the system, you can access it at any time to apply
for other jobs. You may also easily customize you application for
each position you apply to.
How can I be sure that my electronic application arrived?
A confirmation email will be sent to the email address you specify
when creating your application.
Can I submit general
application materials so that I may be considered for future positions
that match my skills and abilities?
At this time we only accept application materials for positions
that are currently posted.
Why do job openings
remain listed so long after the Initial Review Date (IRD) has passed?
UCSC is a large institution with many units, each of which has
its own recruitment timetable
for jobs that it posts. Hiring units may also utilize a search
committee to screen and interview applicants, which can extend
the timetable. We know that this can be frustrating for applicants.
Be patient and persistent.
How can I get more
information about the hiring unit or a particular job opening?
- Sometimes hiring units reference a web site or unit contact
on the job posting.
- If this information is not on the posting you can call our
office at 831-459-2009. We may be able to provide you with contact
information. Make sure to have the job
number when making your inquiry.
I applied weeks ago
but haven't heard anything from the hiring unit. What should I
do?
You may check the status of your application at any time by logging
into the system (http://jobs.ucsc.edu)
with your user name and password. From the left navigation bar
choose “Application Status”. There you can view your
application materials, your status within each recruitment, etc.
