Tips for Applying

Where to Apply

Job Seekers are required to apply on-line at http://jobs.ucsc.edu. Here you can view current job openings and submit an electronic application.

Computers are available at the UCSC Staff Human Resources office:

Office Location: [Directions]
1201 Shaffer Road
Santa Cruz, CA 95060

Computers are also available at public libraries and local Employment Development locations across the county.

How It Works

  1. Search job posting from http://jobs.ucsc.edu.
  2. Click “view” under the job title that interests you.
  3. Review the job posting and click “apply for this posting”.
  4. New users will be prompted to create a user name and password. You will then be moved through a series of screens to create and save an employment application.
  5. Returning users will be prompted to login.
  6. Using your saved application you will apply to this job posting selected and allowed to attach supplemental documents. Inclusion of cover letter, resume, and other relevant materials is at the discretion of the applicant.
  7. At the end of the application process you will receive a confirmation number.
  8. You may check the status of your application at any time by logging into the system (http://jobs.ucsc.edu) with your user name and password. From the left navigation bar choose “Application Status”. There you can view your application materials, your status within each recruitment, etc.

NOTE: For security purposes the system will automatically log you off after 60 minutes of “no activity”. This may result in a loss of information. “No activity” is defined as not changing screens or functions.

What To Do

  • Read the qualifications for the position for which you wish to apply and tailor your resume and/or application to demonstrate your qualifications for the position. Please see Tips For An Effective Job Search.
  • Have your resume and cover letter available in electronic form to attach or paste into the appropriate fields.
  • Choose a time when you can complete the process from beginning to end (about 30-45 minutes).
  • Select the job you wish to apply for from the list, click on the job title, and then click the "Apply Now" button.

What Not To Do

  • Do not use the “BACK”, “FORWARD” or “ REFRESH” buttons to navigate the site.
  • Do not bookmark a particular job posting as they may cause an error because the system does not understand what job you are applying for.
  • Do not close the application window before completing the process.
  • Do not use the back arrow on the browser navigation bar.
