Campus-Only Recruitment

University of California policy requires that a recruitment limited to internal applicants (i.e., Campus-Only) must be approved by the Assistant Vice Chancellor, Staff HR and the EEO/AA Director. In the past, Staff HR and EEO/AA has pre-approved on an annual basis a list of job classifications that are eligible for campus-only recruitment. However, for the period July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010 we are suspending this campus procedure and providing hiring units with the option of utilizing open recruitment or campus-only recruitment in accordance with their divisional procedures.

This temporary suspension will:

  • Provide principal officers and managers added flexibility during these current budget challenges.
  • Broaden the list of alternatives for mitigating the impact of layoffs.
  • Allow units with vacancies to show support for employees impacted by the current budget crisis.
  • Create more opportunities for current employees and laid-off employees with preferential rehire rights.

Campus-Only recruitments should follow fair hiring and Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action best practices ensuring that all interested, qualified applicants are given an opportunity to fairly compete. Prior to June 30, 2010 an audit of campus-only recruitments will be conducted to assess the impact and success of the program, and to address any concerns or issues that have arisen.

Questions regarding this change in procedure may be directed to Data Analyst, Mykell Discipulo at x9-2686 and Employment Manager Lori Castro at x9-2960.
