Campus-Only Recruitment

University of California policy requires that a recruitment limited to internal applicants (i.e., Campus-Only) must be approved by the Assistant Vice Chancellor, Staff HR and the EEO/AA Director. In the past, Staff HR and EEO/AA has pre-approved on an annual basis a list of job classifications that are eligible for campus-only recruitment. However, for the period July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012 we are suspending this campus procedure and providing hiring units with the option of utilizing open recruitment or campus-only recruitment in accordance with their divisional procedures. Please Note: In selecting the campus-only recruitment option; hiring units should have a belief that there is a qualified, diverse pool of potential applicants and, must make and document good faith efforts toward broad campus outreach which is required by our affirmative action policies and procedures.

This temporary suspension will:

  • Provide principal officers and managers added flexibility during these current budget challenges.
  • Broaden the list of alternatives for mitigating the impact of layoffs.
  • Allow units with vacancies to show support for employees impacted by the current budget crisis.
  • Create more opportunities for current employees and laid-off employees with preferential rehire rights.

Campus-Only recruitments should follow fair hiring and Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action best practices ensuring that all interested, qualified applicants are given an opportunity to fairly compete. Prior to June 30, 2012 an audit of campus-only recruitments will be conducted to assess the impact and success of the program, and to address any concerns or issues that have arisen.

Questions may be directed to Employment Manager Lori Castro at x9-2960.
