Introduction to Computer Security
Every day, hackers come up with new and creative ways to break into computers or obtain private information. We hear in the news about employees unintentionally putting private information at risk. This fun, informative, non-technical class will cover simple, practical ways to help you keep your computer and data safe and secure.
In this class, you will learn:
- What computer security is and why it is important at UCSC
- Ways that hackers try to trick people into revealing information
- Mistakes people make that put private information at risk
- Simple, immediately-usable good computing practices, and how to incorporate them into your everyday routine
- What restricted data is, and some specific ways to protect it
- How to analyze real-life situations for security implications
- How to get additional information and computing help
Participation in this class will help you to know what to do and what not to do in order to keep your computer and data safe. This will help UCSC keep campus computing systems running smoothly, and protect personal and confidential information.
