Dear Skilled Crafts Employees,
On February 27, 2024, the American Federation of State, County, Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local #3299 declared an impasse in its negotiations with the University for a successor labor contract for the K7 unit. The University and AFSCME had spent many months working towards the goal of reaching an agreement. However, at this time we will be moving forward with the formal mediation process in an attempt to finalize an agreement.
The University and AFSCME have agreed on two changes – an increase in the boot allowance and changes to the layoff process.
AFSCME has rejected the University‘s last offer of a five-year contract which proposed the following:
- A wage increase package that contains an average hourly increase of approximately $3.50/hr increase in the first year, $2.50/hr increase in the second year, $2.25/hr increase in the third and fourth years, and $2.00/hr increase in the fifth year.
- An increase to the shift differential averaging $2.50 increase per hour.
- An offer of “me too” language for vacation, sick leave, health benefits, and parking leave articles matching whatever is ultimately negotiated for the Service Unit (SX) Contract.
At this time, the University and AFSCME are scheduled to have mediation with a representative of the Public Employee Relations Board on April 19, 2024.
The University will continue its commitment to bargaining in good faith with all of its labor partners and looks forward to reaching a long-term agreement with AFSCME.
Sincerely,
Kamala Green
