This annual series of workshops are targeted to those retiring in the next five years, and you are encouraged to attend all workshops, although everyone is welcome. Estate Planning
This workshop focuses on the essential aspects of Estate planning and why it is a vital step, regardless of their stage in life or the size of their estate. Michelle, ARAG attorney, will share a personal journey that led to their transition from environmental law to estate planning, emphasizing the importance of having a plan in place before unexpected life events occur. Attendees will learn about the scope of estate planning, which goes beyond end-of-life decisions to include incapacity planning, such as appointing someone to manage finances or medical decisions. The workshop will cover key estate planning tools like revocable living trusts, last wills, and alternatives like joint tenancy, along with their benefits and potential pitfalls. Participants will gain insights into how estate planning can preserve relationships, personal dignity, and control over their assets while avoiding court involvement through probate or conservatorship. By the end, attendees will understand how proactive planning can be a meaningful gift to loved ones, reducing stress and conflict during difficult times.
