How Is The Effective Date Of A Classification Determined?

The effective date of reclassifications (as well as equity increases and stipends) is the first day of the pay period following receipt of the completed Classification Review Package in the SHR Compensation office. The time required for noticing the union, if the position is proposed to move out of the bargaining unit, will not affect the effective date (see Process Timeline).

Requests for retroactivity will require a written request for an exception stating the justification or explanation for the delay in submission. It is important that we classify and pay employees in a timely manner, and processing of retroactive pay is very labor intensive and costly.
