Flu Vaccination Program Guidelines for Employees

I. Purpose and Scope

With the COVID-19 pandemic continuing, the potential confluence of infections from COVID-19 and influenza poses a threat to the health and safety of the UC community and the public at large. The University of California issued a system wide executive order on August 30, 2022, requiring all covered students, staff, faculty and other academic appointees to get vaccinated against influenza or opt out.  For these Guidelines, employees are defined as faculty, staff and other academic appointees. The purpose of these Guidelines is to outline the process to comply with the Executive Order.

II. Authority and Responsibility

Department heads and supervisors are responsible for communicating the importance of adhering to these Guidelines and are encouraged to meet and follow-up with employees on their steps to adhere to these Guidelines and ensure employee compliance by the December 1, 2022 deadline.

III. Guidelines

All employees are expected to comply with the Flu Vaccination Program by December 1, 2022.  Newly hired employees with start dates of October 31, 2022 - March 31, 2023, will be required to provide attestation of immunization.

Employees entering any facility who “opt out” of the program will be required to complete the Influenza Vaccination Attestation Form linked below and wear a face covering on campus through the end of the flu season (March 31, 2023) even though campus COVID-19 requirements for face coverings have been lifted.

Reporting Immunizations

Staff and academic employees must complete and submit the Influenza Vaccination Attestation Form by December 1, 2022, reporting one of two (2) possible responses:

  • Yes - I have received or will receive the flu shot for AY 22-23 on or before December 1, 2022
  • No - I have not yet received the flu shot and opt out

Staff employees should contact their Employee Relations representative for more information or questions.

Academic appointees (faculty and other academic appointees) should contact their academic divisional coordinator for more information or questions.
