Staff Human Resources is pleased to announce the Staff Appreciation and Recognition (STAR) Plan has been renewed for the 2014-15 Fiscal Year.

STAR Plan cash recognition awards are discretionary and may be awarded to employees for the purpose of recognizing and rewarding excellence in University service; recognizing and rewarding significant achievements and contributions; and recognizing and rewarding outstanding individual and team performance. Cash awards are non-base building. The University will not place restrictions or conditions on an employee’s use of any cash awarded under this Plan. (Employee non-cash awards and other gifts, including gift cards and gift certificates, are regulated under UC Business and Finance Bulletin No. G-41.)

At UCSC, funding for the STAR Plan is generated through a central assessment of non-represented payroll which is charged to departmental funds.  The Office of Planning and Budget will notify you of your divisional allocation.  Principal Officers may choose to augment the STAR Plan funding with non-restricted divisional funds.

STAR Plan Guidelines for administering the program, along with the STAR Plan Nomination Spreadsheet for submissions of cash awards are available on the SHR website.

Divisions/departments may begin to process awards from these funds immediately. As this process does vary by division, we ask that you please communicate with supervisors/managers regarding the implementation of the STAR Plan within your Division.  It is important that award expenditures be tracked carefully to insure that all allocated funds are used prior to the established deadline of June 15, 2015.  Any STAR Plan funds remaining after the deadline will be returned to the central pool.
