Re: New UC Santa Cruz Staff Onboarding Toolkit for Supervisors

The campus New Employee Orientation (NEO) Project Team, a cross-functional group, has been working over the past year to improve the experience for new UC Santa Cruz employees. One of the team deliverables was to develop onboarding resources for supervisors. I am pleased to announce that we have launched the UC Santa Cruz Supervisor Onboarding Toolkit and Onboarding Checklist, now available on the SHR Talent Acquisition website.

A comprehensive, one-stop resource, both the toolkit and checklist enable new and seasoned supervisors alike to onboard their new staff like a pro!

Starting as early as the when the formal offer is accepted, supervisors now have a go-to resource that will guide their onboarding up through their employee’s first year.

Research shows that providing a well-organized onboarding experience greatly increases employee satisfaction, productivity and retention. Onboarding is the bridge between selection and productivity, encompassing activities from pre-arrival through the end of the first year.

Highlights:

  • The checklist captures all of the universal action items, designed to work in alignment with division and department-specific checklists.
  • The toolkit is the online companion to the checklist and is organized in chronological order. The toolkit provides context and more information on many of the checklist action items.
  • The tips, templates and resources in this toolkit will support our supervisors’ onboarding efforts and shorten the time until new employees are successful contributors to your department and UC Santa Cruz.

Huge thanks and kudos goes to the NEO Project Team for helping to make this happen - Laura Persson, David Abercia, Jen Hale, Vicki Davis, Laurie Swan, Al Covington, Detmar Finke and Amy Kile.

Happy Onboarding!
