Call for Nominations: UC Women’s Initiative for Professional Development (UC WI)

The UC Women’s Initiative for Professional Development (UC WI) is a unique, experiential, systemwide professional development program for mid-career women that brings together participants from every UC location. Participants represent faculty, academic personnel and staff, people managers and non-people managers.

The program is sponsored by the President’s office and the Systemwide Advisory Committee on the Status of Women (SACSW) and offered by Systemwide Human Resources in partnership with Coro Northern California and SACSW.

The program has been designed to:

  • Cultivate a professional network that spans the UC system
  • Provide access to top UC leaders — women and men — to learn about their diverse leadership approaches and journeys
  • Strengthen skills and confidence through hands-on practice with a range of tools in the areas of:
    • Professional development and impact
    • Strategic relationship building
    • Developing and delivering a compelling narrative regarding one’s professional accomplishments and vision
    • Negotiating at work
    • Peer coaching

The ideal participant:

  • Is mid-career faculty, academic personnel and staff from campuses, health centers, Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and Office of the President
  • Has demonstrated potential for advancement
  • Supports woman-identified professionals and seeks to learn concepts that improve their effectiveness at work and hear about the career journeys of established UC leaders

Program Overview

Six Regional cohorts of 30 participants each with representatives from every UC location, come together for four in-person, interactive, all-day sessions, jointly led by a Coro Northern California facilitator and a UC Facilitator. UC facilitators are past graduates of the program who share their experience and expertise and add a UC perspective. UC Santa Cruz will be represented in the North Cohort.

This nomination process is for:
- Cohort 1 North and South (September through November 2021)
- Cohort 2 North and South (January through March 2022)
- Cohort 3 North and South (April through June 2022)

UC WI Participant Costs:
- Participant fee is $1050 (virtual program rate) covers all program materials and facilitation fees
- The participant's division is responsible for covering program costs and the participant's effort during the program
- Note: The participant fee is expected to increase back to $1950 (or higher) once the program returns to in-person sessions. The home division will be responsible for covering program and travel costs.

Nomination Process Overview

Participants may either self nominate or be nominated by their manager. UC Santa Cruz employees must complete the UC Women’s Initiative for Professional Development Nomination Form. The UC Santa Cruz Nomination Deadline will be Friday April, 23rd.

Please note that due to the significant budgetary and time commitment involved in this program, the nomination form requires written manager/supervisor approval as well as Chart String/FAU account information.
