Overview, Roles, and Training

The Talent Acquisition Manager system (TAM) is part of UCPath and is used to facilitate the recruiting and hiring of staff positions. TAM may be viewed at jobs.ucsc.edu, and includes two separate candidate gateways. 

To search and apply for staff jobs, non-UC Santa Cruz employees will use the External Candidate Gateway. UC Santa Cruz employees will use the Internal Candidate Gateway within UCPath.

New tools for Hiring Managers (HM)

  • Job Opening Request form in IT Request, to complete the following:
    • Initiate and submit new competitive recruitment requests
    • Initiate and submit new job offer requests
    • Initiate and submit new non-recruitment requests
    • Initiate and submit new waiver of recruitment requests
  • Recruitment Document Suite
    • View applications routed for review
    • Document applicant screening and selection outcomes
    • Ensure timely applicant status updates
    • Document all recruitment activities
  • Talent Acquisition Manager (TAM)
    • Job Postings are posted
    • Applications are received 

New tools for Certified Hiring Managers (CHM)

CHMs may have direct supervisory responsibility for the position(s) being recruited and recruit frequently, OR are in the CHM role to provide administrative support to one or more hiring managers within a department or division. 

This form [link] must be completed and provided to UCPath prior to signing up and completing CHM training. After the form is processed, instructor-led training will be assigned within the UC Learning Center. Note: CHM training sessions will be available again in late 2020.

Recruitment Approvers (RA): New Role for UC Santa Cruz 

Each division should have at least one primary and one back-up RA. Principal Officers or their designees assign the RA role for their division via email to shrhelp@ucsc.edu. RAs will be responsible for the following activities:  

  • Receive email notifications from the Job Opening Request form in IT Request, and take action to complete following:
    • Review and approve new job opening requests - all types
    • Review and approve new job offer requests, including: 
      • Offers at above the minimum salary
      • Moving Expenses, etc.

Required Training

Fair Hiring Training: HMs, CHMs and search committee co-chairs  must complete this training every three years if they are engaged in recruiting and hiring activities. This training is also recommended for search committee members. 

Certified Hiring Manager training is required  - Submit an email to shrhelp@ucsc.edu to request training dates and availability. 

Hiring Manager training is not required, but is strongly recommended  - Submit an email to shrhelp@ucsc.edu to request training dates and availability.
