Performance Management

  • Discuss probationary period (if applicable)
  • Review position description with the employee to ensure clear understanding of job duties and responsibilities
  • Performance expectations and feedback
    • Who are your customers/clients? Discuss expectations for service levels and providing customer service
    • Establish performance expectations and means of assessment: these should be measurable, understandable, verifiable, equitable, and achievable
    • Establish goals: monitor progress and provide ongoing feedback
  • Review when and how to check-in and ask for help regarding assignments
    • Emphasize the importance of ongoing, open communication
  • Provide written feedback to the employee at the midpoint of the probationary period (if applicable)
  • Introduce performance appraisal process and schedule
  • Provide initial assignments that will allow your new employee to demonstrate their prior knowledge, competencies or ability to learn quickly
