2021 Pre-Retirement Planning Program

Are you preparing for your retirement? Will you have enough income to live the lifestyle you desire? Do you know what happens when you are eligible for Medicare? Social Security? This annual series of workshops are targeted to those retiring in the next five years, and you are encouraged to attend all workshops, although everyone is welcome.


Every successful journey requires proper planning and preparation. And because this is especially true for retirement, the University of California is offering the Pathway to Retirement educational webcast to help faculty and staff plan for financial security and enjoy all that retirement brings. Tackle Debt Before Retirement

Though bankruptcy is not a typical tool to be used for retirement, it can be used to prevent the depletion of retirement funds to manage or eliminate debt related to high interest loans, credit cards, mortgage payments, and car loans. Learn which retirement funds are protected under bankruptcy and which are not. This presentation will help dispel some myths about bankruptcy and introduce you to the ways it can manage and even eliminate various forms of debt. Spend less on your debt - take control and devote more to your retirement savings.

Faculty Bridge to Retirement: Panel discussion with retired faculty

This session is designed to help you start thinking about life after retirement. A panel of retired faculty members will discuss their experiences transitioning into retirement.

Topics will include: financial considerations; post-retirement arrangements with the university; post-retirement opportunities and challenges; staying connected to the university and to colleagues; retiring out of the area.

University of California Retirement Plan

This presentation provides a detailed examination of the UC Retirement Plan including tools to calculate your retirement income, the retirement process, decisions you should be prepared to make and documents required at retirement.  This presentation will be recorded.

Estate Planning

This presentation explains wills, different types of trusts, durable powers of attorney, and medical directives, as well as who needs each type of document and why. There will also be a discussion on preserving your assets for your loved ones if you need nursing home care.
