The objective of Learning and Development is to develop the competencies and to nurture the talents of the UC Santa Cruz workforce. Learning and Development provides resources to enable employees to succeed in their current roles as well as develop new skills to further career advancement.
Ask your new employee what learning and development opportunities are of interest to them. Discuss development opportunities that will directly enhance job performance. Build these conversations into your regular touch base conversations. Discuss which opportunities may be appropriate and how they fit into the strategic plan for the department.
Create opportunities for your new employee to interact with a greater cross section of the campus community. Talk about professional development and continuing education.
