Supervisor's Guide to Termination
At UC Santa Cruz, we strive to help each of our staff employees succeed by providing coaching, guidance, and tools. Sometimes, despite appropriate interventions, managers and supervisors need to take steps to separate individuals from university employment because of misconduct or an employee’s failure to maintain appropriate work performance standards.
This guide provides a general overview of the campus’ involuntary separation process for different types of career employees, including represented employees, professional and support staff, and managers and senior professionals.
Engaging in discussions and moving forward with involuntary separations can be extremely difficult. In addition to this guide, the Employee & Labor Relations team is always available to walk you through specific questions you might have and prepare you for outcomes with your individual case.
