Layoff Options Breakdown for PPSM  (Personnel Policies for Staff Members) Employees

Preferential Rehire Period

  • < 5 years of seniority = 1 year
  • ≥ 5 years and < 10 years of seniority = 2 years
  • ≥ 10 years of seniority = 3 years

Termination of Preferential Rights

  1. When the employee accepts any career position and passes the trial employment period, if required;
  2. if the employee refuses a preferential job offer at the same or higher salary and same percentage of time;
  3. fails to respond to a written notice of an employment opportunity;
  4. or refuses two offers of employment for a career position at the same or higher salary and same percentage of time as the position held at the time of layoff, or resigns.

Recall Period

  • 3 years

Termination of Recall Rights

  1. When the employee accepts any career position and passes the trial employment period, if required;
  2. if the employee refuses to be recalled;
  3. fails to respond to a written notice of an employment opportunity; or refuses two offers of employment for a career position at the same or higher salary and same percentage of time as the position held at the time of layoff, or resigns.

Severance

1 week (5 workdays) of salary for each full year of service from the most recent break in service, up to a maximum of 16 weeks of base pay

Severance Repayment
An employee who has received severance pay and who returns to the University in a career position at the same or higher salary and same percentage of time as the position held at the time of layoff shall only retain the portion of the severance pay equal to the number of days between the effective date of layoff or reduction in time and the employee’s rehire date.
